Frequently Asked Questions
What if I can’t afford a lawyer right now?
We understand that legal stress often comes with financial pressure. That’s why we offer fixed-fee services where possible, clear estimates for court representation, and a no-cost initial conversation to help you understand your options. In some cases, we may be able to assist with referral to community legal services or progressive payment structures.
Do you only take on criminal cases?
Not at all. While criminal defence is our core focus, we also handle intervention order matters, driving matters, and advocacy for prisoners. If you have a legal problem and don’t know where to turn to, give us a call. Our mission is to support clients through the most stressful legal moments in their life — whatever the area of law may be.
Will I be speaking directly with Jules?
Yes. JAGRB Legal is a sole practitioner practice. From the first call to the final court appearance, you’ll work directly with Jules Balancy — no reception barriers or junior staff. That’s what makes our practice personal and focused.
What’s your process for taking on new clients?
We start with a free 15–20 minute confidential call. If we believe we can assist, we provide a written proposal or strategy outline. Once agreed, we’ll notify the parties, lodge the required paperwork, engage with the court or police if needed, and begin representation immediately.
How soon can you represent me in court?
We understand how time-sensitive legal matters can be. In urgent cases, we can often appear on your behalf within 24–48 hours depending on jurisdiction and hearing schedules.
Are your services available after hours?
We make every effort to be responsive — especially in time-critical criminal matters. While official hours are business days, you can always leave a voicemail or email and we’ll return urgent messages as soon as possible.
What sets JAGRB Legal apart from larger firms?
You’re not a case file here. You’re a person. At JAGRB Legal, we only take on a limited number of matters to ensure each client receives personal attention, empathy, and sharp legal advice. No passing you from department to department.
Where are you located? Do you serve all of Victoria?
Yes. While our office is based in Point Cook and by appointment only, we represent clients across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Remote consultation is also available.
Do you offer help with intervention orders?
Absolutely. We understand the sensitivities and heartache associated with intervention orders. Whether you are applying for or responding to an IVO, we provide guidance through each step — including court preparation, police interaction where necessary, and court advocacy.
Can you help with parole applications or prisoner support?
Yes. We provide advocacy for those who have demonstrated remorse and worked hard to rehabilitate themselves. Our focus is on outcomes and support — not just punishment.
